Artists's statement
My work is not really about anything specific. If an idea comes to mind, I try to incorporate it in my work. As a result, most of my work is not about the same thing. So far, all my work has been created because I was in a class and the work is the assignment. I haven’t made anything completely on my own time. When I make things, they are not really intended for anyone specific, but do usually end up as holiday presents for friends and family. Some things I make serve no purpose other than decoration, other works are functional and can be used in daily life. Usually I get inspired by accident. I’ll be trying to make one thing and it does not quite turn out right, but it leads me to a new idea that works and is even better. Or I could just be fiddling around and I come up with a great idea. I can work with clay or I can work on paper and draw. I, however, personally think clay is more fun to work with. I also would rather work abstractly rather than realistically. I like to have room for the work to change or even take on a whole new look rather than sticking strictly to a realistic image.
